Teaching and Learning Process (PBM) hold by Animal Sciences Department is programmed for 8 (eight) semesters or 4 (four) years with 144 minimal number of semester credits. There are 14-16 meetings for each semester (8th meeting is for Mid Test and 16th meeting is for Final Test).
There is laboratory practice on each semester, while on semester VII and VIII, besides having laboratory practice, the students are also planned to have internship in the business and food industries. All of the activities during the practicum and internship practices will be written to the report, that will be presented and assessed by practical lecturer/supervisor.
The stages of the activities in the learning process begins with planning, implementing and evaluating. The planning phase begins with a departement meeting on one month before the lecture to determine the distribution of courses, lecturers and available classes. One week later, an academic meeting is held and led by Assistant Dean I to share the lecturers workload and coordinate with all departments. Furthermore, all lecturers are required to make lecture contracts that must be approved by Head of Department and the teaching strategies preparation thas is outlined in GBPP and SAP.
In conducting lectures, lecturers are required to document the lecture activity through a learning report sheet which will be monitored by the Head of Department and kept by the academic division of the faculty or department. At the end of the semester, the lecturers must write and submit the learning report to the Head of Department. Furthermore, each department evaluates the implementation of the teaching and learning process of all lecturers to be reported to the Dean through the Assistant Dean I. To assess the performance of lecturers, at the end of each semester, the Quality Assurance Division distributes questionnaires to the students. The result of the questionnaires are used as feedback for the implementation of the learning process that will be delivered at the next semester academic meeting after being processed by the department.
Student-centered learning method can encourage the students to be involved actively in building knowledge, attitude and behavior. Student-centered learning method are included: group discussion, problem solving, PKL (Field Practice), practicum, and internship practice.
This learning method, which is applied in the Animal Sciences Department based on the vission of FPP Undip, means that the percentage of Student Centered systems has a relatively large proportion, thus, it is demanding students as subjects and not as objects. The learning that gives a lot of practical courses, discusses problem solving learning and internship practice, makes the students more mature in applying their soft skills. This is the expectation of Animal Sciences Department graduates. They are expected to be ready to face job competition in the business and livestock industries.
