Hello friends, let me introduce myself, my name is Suratman, a student from the Bachelor of Animal Science Study Program, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) Class of 2020. I would like to share interesting experiences while participating in the 3th of Independent Student Exchange (ISE) program at Universitas Mataram (UNRAM) through this article.

The ISE program, an initiative from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology; opened up opportunities for me to study at a campus of choice on a different island from where I come from (Java Island). Apart from gaining experience studying in a new environment, ISE also gave me the opportunity to interact with various new individuals. I feel lucky to be able to take part in this program at Universitas Mataram, which is known as one of the best universities in West Nusa Tenggara (Indonesian : NTB). During my study period here, the warm welcome from lecturers and students made me feel at home. Even though studying in a new environment challenges my ability to adapt and interact with native Unram students, this is not a difficulty for me because they are very friendly and supportive. While studying here, I did not experience any obstacles. The comfortable campus environment and friendly people have increased my enthusiasm for learning.

Another interesting experience is exploring the beauty of the island of Lombok. From white sandy beaches to stunning waterfalls, this island enchants with its beauty. Through the Archipelago Module or the Nusantara Module activities in the 3rd ISE, I got the opportunity to explore extraordinary historical, cultural and tourist places. The Nusantara Module brings us closer to Indonesian traditions and culture that we may not have previously known about. I myself visited several interesting places in the Nusantara Module, such as the Sade Traditional Village, Mandalika Circuit, Gili Trawangan, The Foot of Mount Rinjani, and Tiu Kelep Waterfall. Opportunities like this are very valuable and it would be a shame to miss them. This program provides in-depth insight into Indonesia’s limitless wealth.

What makes this program so special is the possibility of interacting with students from all over Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke. This multicultural interaction not only enriches the experience but also fosters a sense of love and pride for the Indonesian homeland. Having friends from various parts of the archipelago is a very valuable and eye-opening experience. Having the opportunity to learn regional languages, exchange stories, and interact with friends is an experience of immeasurable value.

Thus, through this ISE activity, I not only gained valuable academic knowledge but also an unforgettable multicultural experience. This program not only opens doors to the academic world but also forges deep cross-cultural friendships. Hopefully friends at the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro will get the opportunity to join this program and experience the wonder of Indonesia’s diversity.
