The Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) Universitas Diponegoro with PT. Medion held a general lecture and necropsy training on Saturday, May 20, 2023 with the theme “Update of Viral Disease in Poultry”. This general lecture was organized by the Department of Animal Science, FAAS. This event was attended by bachelor program students of Animal Science class of 2021 whose taking the Animal Health Sciences course. The general lecture was conducted in a hybrid system (offline or online) and divided into two parts, namely theory session and necropsy practice. The general lecture material was delivered by Ganang Setyo Nugroho, S.Pt (Technical Sales and Representative, Medion) as the speaker and also an alumni of FPP UNDIP. In the theory session, the speaker explained about the various viral diseases that often attack poultry farm, the disease’s aethiology, clinical symptoms, external and internal organ changes, disease prevention and treatment of viral diseases. In practical sessions, students learn to perform necropsy on broiler chickens and study the anatomy, physiology and specific organ changes in chickens that are attacked by certain viral diseases.
The high enthusiasm of students in this lecture was marked by alot of questions from students to speakerss during discussions in theory and necropsy sessions. Naswa, a student who took part in this event said that public lectures on poultry diseases were very interesting to attend because the contents were very updated and very useful for broadening students’ insights about the trend of poultry diseases which are now trending in livestock in Indonesia. She hopes that faculty will often hold similar events so that students always updates on the latest information in animal husbandry.
“This general lecture is very useful for students, the knowledge presented can be a provision for students when working in the future. Nowadays, poultry still dominates the animal husbandry sector in Indonesia, so it’s mandatory for animal husbandry students to understand everything related to poultry diseases and their prevention”, said Dr. Ir. Limbang Kustiawan Nuswantara, S.Pt., M.P., IPU. as a Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs FPP Universitas Diponegoro.
Through this event, it is hoped that the knowledges presented will be useful and the students in Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences Universitas Diponegoro will become highly-qualified on pursuing their careers in the future.
